Uganda 3-0 Lesotho

At the end of the Uganda Cranes game against Taifa Stars at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, enraged fans took to social media to call for the head of the manager Sebastian Desabre.

At the final whistle at the same venue, there were chants of excitement after Desabre’s team outwitted South African opponents Lesotho.

Emma Okwi’s two beautiful goals and a Farouk Miya penalty earned the Frenchman some breathing space.

Desabre made the right calls to his team selection and how he executed the duty on the pitch. He set up his boys to go all out to get their enemy.

Unlike the affair against Tanzania where the Frenchman deployed two defensive midfielders in Denis Iguma and Khalid Aucho, the former was moved to the centreback position while the letter left to orchestrate the arch.

Joseph Ochaya who showed less of his abilities in this particular fixture, Moses Waiswa, Okwi, Farouk Miya and Edirisa ‘Torres’ Lubega played deep in the opposition’s half.

Okwi’s goal arrived as a result of the high pressing on the part of the team.

The attack was helped by the ever running Nicholas Wadada and Godfrey Walusimbi who manned the right and left positions.

Their runs aloud lively Waiswa and Farouk Miya to move the ball easily in the third half.

Iguma looked natural alongside Hassan Wasswa at the back where he was called in to deputize for suspended Mursheed Jjuuko.

Another surprise call was Torres who occupied the number nine role. The former Proline man had a massive day at Mandela National Stadium, playing on his own upfront.

He contributed to Okwi and the team’s third goal. Torres received stunning ovation from the crowd when he was replaced by Patrick Kaddu.

Then Waiswa is probably the new gem at the heart of the midfield that the Cranes have been hunting down for.

This boy is something else. He fluid passing and ability to keep things calm has improved the team’s attack.

His sublime contribution to the third goal with a defense splitting pace to Torres was the highlight of the game as fans recognized his performance when Isaac Muleme came on.

Then the long call to have Sadam Juma into this team finally materialized with the midfielder brought in the 60th minute to tighten and keep possession.

Denis Onyango who did not have a busy day, Hassan Wasswa and Jajja Walu provided real leadership to the group.

Desabre will surely have a good night sleep as he plots for the away trip in Lesotho on Tuesday.
