Police have vowed not to allow Kira Municipality MP, Ibrahim SSsemuju to go ahead with his consultative rally , after failing to agree on the venue.

This comes as the police and army have remain camped at the home of Semujju Nganda, who is the Opposition Chief Whip and  Forum for Democratic Change,FDC, spokesperson.

Luke Owoyesigire, Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson says the rally will not take place at the venue and that they are waiting for the MP to write to them informing them of another venue.

Ssemuju was supposed to hold the public rally in his constituency which Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was expected to attend.

The rally was to be held at the grounds outside Jokas Hotel Bweyogerere but was to be preceded with the planting of a tree at Kireka Taxi Park by MPs. The rally which was supposed to start at mid-day was expected to be attended by 2000 people.

Earlier, Ssemuju who was by press time still hiding in his house said he dully wrote to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola and informed him about the rally(on 12th November), but police say he gave them a short notice and informed them on 15th. He vowed to go ahead with his rally.

A document seen by our reporter indicates that the IGP replied(on 15th November) saying that Ssemujju could not go ahead with the planned rally as Police would not be able to secure it. The letter had also been received on November on 15, a day before the event.
“This is not only in contravention of the Public Order Management Act (POMA) 2013 under section 13, but also does not give police ample time to prepare with you to secure the event. The venue for the intended activity is not easy to secure. It does not only lie outside the rail way line but also faces a hotel and is besides a busy high way. Holding a rally in such a place is risky,” Ochola wrote.
