Government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, has hit back at the opposition for setting stringent  terms and conditions under which they can attend the National dialogue whose launch has since been postponed from 21st November to 18th December 2018.

State House said in a statement clarified that the postponement was sought to enable the on-going consultations on the detailed arrangements pertaining to the National Dialogue with other key stakeholders.
The President emphasized that the importance of the National Dialogue was to promote stability and prosperity.

The process is expected to see Ugandans develop consensus on pertinent and contentious issues that affect society today with the view of forging a new path that would lead to the country’s sustainable development.

The opposition has since set stringent terms for the dialogue, saying it must include the transition of power from President Museveni.

Responding to the development,  Opondo scoofed at the opposition politicians , criiticising them for having seemingly run out of ideas.

“The idea of the national dialogue came from the elder’s forum, inter-religious council and the civil society. The NRM that I speak for is an open-ended organization that welcomes everyone to the table, all the people who have no ideas will run away,” he stated.

Earlier this week, Maggie Kigozi revealed that the national dialogue is still on course and the committee is working on the agenda that will be known to everyone.

Asked whether President Museveni will take part in the dialogue as the head of state, she said; “We look at the national dialogue as the Uganda national dialogue. Uganda has a head-of-state and he will launch the dialogue. After the launch, the position of the head-of-state is nullified to the position of a Ugandan.”
