As Uganda’s unemployment curve rises on a daily basis, Dr.Innocent Nahabwe, the 100.2 Galaxy fm Zzina CEO has strongly advised the youth to cherish education and always aim higher in order to attain more skills and boost their employability.

Dr. Nahabwe who graduated with a master’s of science degree in Marketing from Makerere University Business School(MUBS) today, also holds a Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine from Makerere University, among other notable academic milestones.

Speaking after his graduation, Dr. Nahabwe noted that the pursuit for knowledge should be a continuous process so as to improve the quality of one’s understanding as well as to shape his or her world view.

He stressed that education is something that everybody needs, irrespective of their current position and employment status. ‘”Education is something that everybody needs…The truth is,you might not need it now, you might say; I work in the ‘Salon’ when do I need the papers, but it comes later to bite”, Dr.Nahabwe said.

Dr.Nahabwe’s advice is not any different from President Yoweri Museveni’s.

Recently, President Yoweri Museveni who presided over the graduation ceremony, on day one, said that being educated is good enough, irrespective of whether, or even when one gets employed.

‘’But if you don’t get a job, don’t be despondent. Don’t worry, you are educated and that’s good enough.’’ President Museveni said.

‘’ What if, through Youth Livelihood Programme you form a group and we give you capital to start for example; a Maize processing factory?  Most of the social scientists should focus on Management. Others can be artists, musicians, comedians ;like Hon. Kato Lubwama,’’ He added.

He further blamed the youth for lack of organization, which he said has caused the sky rocketing youth unemployment.

‘’It is not true that there are no jobs in Uganda. What is lacking is organisation; part of it among the youth. If one fails to attain a job in either public or private organisations, they can opt for music or comedy just like Kato Lubwana (Rubaga South MP) who is also in Parliament,” Museveni said.

The 2014 national housing and population census by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics showed that more than 11.8 million Ugandans, especially those straight from university and other tertiary institutions have a problem getting employment.

Day three of the 69th graduation at Makerere comprised students from Makerere University Business School – MUBS where a total of 3,644 graduated with Bachelors, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Five (5) graduated with PhDs.

Miss World Africa 2018, Quinn Abenakyo, was also awarded for her achievement and for carrying Makerere University flag high.

Abenakyo graduated with a second class upper bachelor’s degree in Business Computing.
