A middle-aged woman from Rurii Village in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, in Kenya  is recuperating at the JM Memorial Hospital after she was assaulted by her husband following a disagreement over food.

The mother-of-two was allegedly beaten up by her husband after she prepared eight chapatis from half a kilogram of wheat flour on Tuesday.

Neighbours, however, reveal that the suspect had developed a habit of assaulting his wife over food.

“Sometime back, the suspect went home with three avocados. His wife and children ate one. When the man realised that one of his fruits had been eaten, he mercilessly beat up his spouse. The second time, he came home with matumbo  bought at Ksh50. He beat up the woman on claims that the matumbo  did not have soup. And most recently, he beat her up over claims that the flour he bought should have produced 20 chapatis and not 8,” said the couple’s neighbour.

The victim, who is pregnant, sustained injuries to her body, and remains unconscious in hospital.

The suspect, whose neighbours claim is addicted to alcohol, is being detained at Ol Kalou Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.
