StarTimes Uganda Premier League

Tomorrow (February 22nd)

Vipers SC v Bright Stars FC

St Mary’s Stadium – 4:00pm

Vipers Sports Club host Bright Stars FC in a rescheduled StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter tomorrow afternoon as the Venoms aim to bounce back from two league matches without a win.

It hasn’t been the most encouraging results during the past eight days with defensive deficiencies continuing to be a major concern as four goals were shipped against SC Villa and Tooro United.

This weekend’s visit of Bright Stars represents a must win game for Vipers, especially if we want to continue being genuine title challengers with 11 games still to play.

Bright Stars have become one of Uganda’s top flight resolute sides under Fred Kajoba, as he gets the most out of a fairly limited squad with their robust hard game style, a pure opposite to Vipers but Michael Nam Ouma knows exactly the threat they pose having drawn 0-0 to the same team in his first match at the helm.

Having failed to win any match out of the previous two, a pick me up victory is required from the lads to put the below par couple of performances behind our backs.

The Opposition:

Bright Stars is having a poor run of form in the league after going 10 matches without a win and their last victory was away in Arua against Paidha Black Angels on 1st December 2018 however their Uganda Cup defeat of URA FC, is a timely boost.

They currently lie 9th on the 16 team league table with 24 points out of 19 games having won 5 matches, drawn 9 and lost 5 in the process making it an average of 1:11 points per match.

Last meeting at Kitende

Vipers 3-2 Brightstars
The corresponding fixture at St Mary’s stadium ended 3-2 in Vipers favour after Tom Masiko’s stunning winner in the 89th minute sealed an emphatic victory after Kokas Opejo’s strike and a Nelson Senkatuka penalty had threatened to spoil the party by cancelling out Brian Nkuubi’s opener before Steven Mukwala restored parity in the 82nd minute.

If the Venoms pick maximum points from tomorrow’s engagement, they will close the gap from table leaders KCCA FC to 4 points following their 1-1 draw with Police FC in today’s fixture played at Lugogo.

Team News:
Youthful goalkeeper Bashir Sekagya remains a long term absentee after it was resolved he faces the knife to heal a troublesome knee injury which has sidelined him for quite a time.

Vipers will further be without Geofrey Wasswa who twisted the ankle during training ahead of SC Villa’s fixture and has since remained on the sidelines.

Defenders Bashir Asiku and Livingstone Mulondo have also not been part of team training for the past few days thus their availability tomorrow is not assured.

However, captain Tadeo Lwanga and Moses Waiswa who both missed the previous two matches, are available for selection if the coach opts to use them.
