Stanbic Uganda Cup

Quarterfinal

Proline FC vs Vipers SC

Startimes Stadium Lugogo, 3:00pm

Vipers sports club will be looking to bounce back from their Uganda Premier League defeat against Ndejje University at the Arena of Visions in Bombo as they take on Proline FC in the Uganda Cup quarterfinal encounter tomorrow.

Knock out competitions have no defined formula making them unpredictable irrespective of which ever opposition you face, however, its always a good feeling to face a lower league opponent.

The Venoms 18 match unbeaten run away from home came to an end last week with a 2-1 to the Ndu Lions, but Michael Nam Ouma’s lads have the opportunity to book a cup semifinal berth with a win as they continue to fight for honours on two fronts.

Though at this stage last season, Vipers beat Kansai Plascon 1-0 away at Ntaawo play grounds, thanks to Dan Sserunkuma’s effort, caution must be in the players’ minds as a season before, its at the same stage when Paidha Black Angels eliminated the 2016 champions 1-0 at Kitende.

This is the first meeting between the two clubs in the tournament but their last clash was in the StarTimes Uganda premier league which Vipers emphatically won 3-1 enroute to lifting the title and going by Proline’s own standards, its surely going to be a tougher test than that of Kiboga Young in the round of 16.

Both Vipers and Proline have lost twice in the league and the latter come into this game from a barren stalemate with Doves FC.

Team News:

Rahmat Ssenfuka returns to face his former side for the first time since joining the Venoms.

Brian Nkuubi if selected will play against his brother Arnold Sserunjogi who anchors Proline’s midfield.

Fabien Mutombora will be rested as youngsters Derrick Ochan and Viper U19 keeper Mutwalib Mugolofa will feature tomorrow.

Abraham Ndugwa is Vipers leading scorer in this competition with 3 goals and will have an opportunity to extend his talfinals.

Tom Masiko recovered from a bout of fever which saw him miss the Ndejje University fixture however this game comes too early for him. He returned to training this evening hence will not make the short trip across town.

In case of a draw between the two teams, the sides will play another thirty extra minutes but should there be no victor thereafter spot kicks will be used to determine the winner who will progress to the semi finals.
