Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted ‘we were not worthy of a Manchester United team’ following his side’s humiliating 4-0 defeat away to Everton.

Goals from Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott struck a further blow to United’s hopes of securing a top four finish in the Premier League.

Solskjaer went over to the United supporters after the game at Goodison Park to apologise for a ‘sloppy’ display.

Solskjaer told Sky Sports News: ‘They (Everton) were better at everything. There are so many things we needed to do better today to get a result. We just didn’t perform.

‘That’s about all I can say, we were not worthy of a Manchester United team. We all put our hands up and apologise.

‘We were beaten all over the pitch on the basics. You want to see your team express themselves and today we didn’t see that. In some parts, yes but there were sloppy goals and we were sloppy on the ball.

‘There’s no hiding place, we were not good enough today and we’ve got to improve to be where we want to be.

‘This club has been down before and we’ve got to pick ourselves up.’
