Rowdy residents of Alito Sub County in Kole District yesterday lynched two suspected thieves and burnt their bodies to ash.

Jasper Opio and Isaac Agwa, both residents of Amuge A village in Agoma Parish in Alito Sub County were accused of stealing a goat belonging to Nelson Acwrra, a resident of Aroca Village in Otwal Sub County in Oyam District on Saturday.

They were intercepted in Amuge village in Agoma trading Centre on Sunday evening and lynched.

Santo Odero, a resident of Alyato village who is also an eye witness, says the mob grabbed the suspects from officers from Agoma Police Outpost before lynching them and setting their bodies ablaze.

He says Odero had slaughtered the goat and was selling roasted meat to residents but their lack slipped when the skin of the stolen goat was discovered.

Ahmed Musakana, the Kole District Police Commander, confirmed the incident, saying they are investigating the matter.

Just last week, Jasper Okello Ongu, a trader at Bala Trading Centre in Kole District was also killed and his body set ablaze for alleged theft of a bull.

At least six suspected thieves have been killed in Lango sub region since the beginning of this year in mob justice.

Peter Nkulega, North Kyoga Region Police Commander recently said they have embarked on community policing aimed sensitizing residents against the new wave of mob justice.
