Christopher Ssentongo, the driver of the Toyota Prado TX that police broke into to arrest Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine has narrated the nasty arrest of the musician turned legislator .

Police on Monday afternoon had to break into the vehicle belonging to Mityana Municiplaity legislator Francis Zaake before arresting Kyagulanyi and whisking him away to an unknown destination.

In an interview with the media, Ssentongo, who was the driver of the vehicle said Police made many unsuccessful attempts to break into the vehicle.

“When we tried to enter Busaabala, they blocked us. They started spraying pepper into the car fans but lucky enough, the air conditioner filtered the air and we were not harmed by the spray,” Ssentongo said.

He however noted that when all attempts failed, police clamped and towed the Toyota Prado TX brand vehicle  before going for their next plan of forcefully breaking into the vehicle.

“They used their pistols to break the passenger door screen where Bobi was seated. They then sprayed inside with pepper forcing him(Bobi Wine) to ask that I open,”Ssentongo narrated.

The driver said at this time, police grabbed Kyagulanyi and whisked him away to an unknown destination while the driver and singer Nubian Lee were left untouched.

It later turned out that Bobi Wine had been driven back t his home in Magere, Gayaza.

A closer look at the window shows a huge hole left behind by the shatters of the pistol butts.

Bobi wine and other youth had forced their way to One Love Beach Busabala after police had blocked the second Kyarenga concert scheduled for today and sealed off the area.

Yesterday, Police cancelled the concert on grounds that they were unable to provide adequate security for the concert at the moment due to their failure to adhere to the stricter safety guidelines and site infrastructure concerns at the selected venues. Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said the promoters totally failed to meet the proactive harm minimization measures agreed upon to help address potential eventualities that might arise due to overcrowding.

He said the safety of revelers continues to be a top priority and the new procedures will strengthen and standardize the security and public safety practices, at major music events and venues.

Wine is among the most prominent critics of Uganda’s longtime President Yoweri Museveni, and authorities have repeatedly blocked him from performing publically.
Young Ugandans have recently been energised by the singer-MP, who has become a thorn in the side of the government through his songs about social justice.
