Bobi Wine’s lawyers , Kampala mayor hopeful Jose Chameleone and Members of Parliament including Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze have this afternoon(Tuesday, April 30th 2019) been denied access to Luzira prison gates, forcing them to call off plans to visit the singer cum politician who was remanded yesterday after being charged with disobedience of statutory duty when he allegedly got involved in the social media and mobile money tax protests.

The team included Nambooze, MP. Allan Ssewanyana, MP Kasibante Moses, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and others.

According to MP Nambooze, they were told by Uganda Prisons Services (UPS) to back off any plans to see Bobi Wine without special clearance from the Commissioner General of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija.

She however says after ping-pong, they rang Dr. Bashaija who referred them to the Regional Prisons Commander. Their effort still did not pay off, but they were then directed to a one Jackson Kuyangana who identified himself as the Officer in Charge (OC) Special Safety Unit (SSU) who , to their total disappointment, told them they were only following orders.

“The powerful Kuyangana arrogantly told us that he is under instruction not to allow anyone to access Prisoner Kyagulanyi because of his (Kyagulanyi) security,” Nambooze said adding that “it doesn’t matter to these Officers that today [Tuesday] is a visitor’s day at Luziira and other Prisoners are receiving their guests.”

When contacted however,UPS Commissioner General Johnson Byabashaija claimed to be in Agago District for official duties.
