Uganda Cancer Institute has registered an ongoing increase in the cases of Cancer of the Cervix among women.

According to Victoria Walusansa the deputy director Uganda Cancer Institute, 90% of the patients they receive are women with cervical cancer.

Walusansa says of these 58percent are diagnosed with cancer while 45percent is too late.

Walusansa recommends young girls to take advantage of the free human papillomavirus (HPV) cancer vaccination rolled out by the government to diagnose early.

She says the emphasis should be put on girls aged 10years above, which does a lot in reversing the trend.

Walusansa calls on women to go for timely and regular cancer screening now to minimize delayed cases of the topmost killer among cancers in Uganda.

We hope to establish a female cancer unit, we have a continuous build-up of patients but are also faced with Infrastructural and budgetary constraints. Walusansa says.
