It was a horror when a blade from a mowing machine sliced the head of a ten-year-old girl in Gulu district.

Dinah Kirabo, a resident of Forest Sub –Ward, Laroo Division in Gulu Municipality met her demise on Sunday afternoon when she went to fetch water from a nearby borehole.

Eyewitnesses say on her way, one David Okot was using the mower to cut the grass in the neighborhood when it flew off and in the process directly targeted Kirabo on the forehead.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police spokesperson, says a panicking Okot initially the deserted the mower and run away only to show up later and turn himself in at Gulu University Police Post. He was then taken to Gulu Central Police Station.

Okema says Kirabo was transferred from Gulu Regional Referral Hospital to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor where she was pronounced dead at 11 pm.

Police are investigating a case of rash and negligence under Gulu CRB 1656/2019. Meanwhile, Kirabo’s lifeless body is at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor pending post-mortem.
