The Uganda Women U-20 team will face neighbors Tanzania in the preliminary round of thr 2020 FIFA U-20 women world cup.

This will be the third time the U-20 team will be taking part in the qualifiers in a bid to secure one of the two available slots for the African continent in the global tournament.

The qualifiers will have four rounds which include the preliminary, the first round, second round and the final round.

The preliminary round will take place on 17th-19th January and 31st-2nd February 2020.

Tanzania will host Uganda in the first leg before both sides meet again in the return leg a fortnight later.

Thr aggregate winner will face WestAfrican nations Senegal or Sierra Leone in the first round slated for March next year.

The second round ties will be played in April and May while the final round will be played in May and June.

Only Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana recieved preliminary round byes to the first round. Nigeria are also in contention for tge tournament hosting rights alongside joint bidders Costa Rica and Panama.

Uganda U-20 team first took part in the world cup qualifiers in 2009 ahead of the tournament held in Germany in 2010.

Uganda beat Rwanda 2-1 at home and drew 1-1 away but failed to proceed to play against Zambia due to lack of funds.

In 2013 ahead of the 2014 world Cup held in Canada, Uganda walloped South Sudan 9-0 away from home and 13-0 at Lugogo to register a record 22-0 victory in the preliminary round.

The team was supposed to play against Egypt in the second round but the North Africans pulled out of the qualifiers but Uganda also failed to play against Ghana in the third round due to lack of funds and susquently pulled out.
