A South Sudanese national identified as Dutch Chuol Kaylech Toang has been arrested while crossing from Kenya to Uganda with materials for manufacturing counterfeit currency.

Chuol was intercepted at Malaba One-Stop Border Point after he went through a scanner, that detected a problem prompting the immigration officials on duty to physically inspect the luggage.

Ian Rumanyika, the Assistant Commissioner Public and Cooperate Affairs in the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, says they came across bundles of papers in size of a dollar and some liquid among other things that had filled his bag.

He says on the face value they were just papers but after dropping a liquid chemical in Chuol’s luggage, the papers transformed into fake dollars leading to his arrest.

He is currently in Police custody.
