Winnie Kiiza will look up to the constitution to save her from FDC President Patrick Oboi Amuriat’s axe.

Amuriat announced changes to the Parliament opposition leadership last week which saw Betty Ochan appointed to replace Kiiza as leader of opposition in the house.

However, the Kasese woman MP on her return from the US, threw tantrums at the changes, claiming she was not consulted.

She went ahead to claim she will only leave if she receives official statement from Parliament, and also implored the constitution be consulted on her title.

At a news conference Monday, she said: “I am ready to leave, but I am not abdicating from my role. If what’s on the news is true on appointment of a Minority leader, the constitution does not mention this. It only mentions Leader of opposition and I await communication.”

Kiiza revealed: “There are a lot of considerations to be made. I am thankful for all who have walked this journey with me. I thank my party for granting me this opportunity. If my party has changed leadership.”

The Kasese legislator said: “I am not against my party and am not in disagreement with my party. I am not in disagreement with any newly appointed leader. If it so happens then so be it. For now, let us wait for official communication.”

She stated: “When the official communication is made, peaceful transition will be done to the newly appointed leader of opposition. I am looking forward for communication.”

Kiiza went on: “The disagreements at party head quarters are for the benefit of the party. These current elections that have been going on should not be taken as conflicts or grudges.”

However, Parliament mouthpiece Chris Obore confirmed Monday evening that Speaker Kadaga has received the letter from FDC confirming changes in opposition leadership.
