Youthful Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga was freed on Monday along with 32 others arrested in Arua after the chaotic elections.

Karuhanga and his colleagues including MPs; Kasiano Wadri, Paul Mwiru, Francis Zaake and Robert Kyagulanyi were hunted down by the Special Forces officers who reportedly roughed them up and handed them to police.

The Ntungamo MP recounted his breathtaking experience to NBS TV and how is not shaken by the treatment.

Hon. Karuhanga: The political environment was calm in Arua until President Museveni came. We had a wonderful rally and a peaceful walk to the hotel until much later when we heard that the president’s convoy had been pelted with stones.

Hon. Karuganga: We want Ugandans to get a peaceful transition of power. As political leaders, we shall do more and more until we have peace in our country.

Hon. Karuhanga: Having been together in prison for 14 days, we had to think through and appreciate what our country is going through and probably what is yet to come.

Hon. Karuhanga: We were hardly in touch with the outside world until we were transferred to Gulu Central Prison.

Hon. Karuhanga: There was a lady who was in deeper pain and was bleeding through her private parts, as of yesterday, she was still bleeding. A one Atiku’s back was shuttered and we really need to pray for him.

Hon. Karuhanga: We saw Hon. Kyagulanyi and the state he was in was so unbelievable, he was beaten, injected with all sorts of drugs he knew nothing about and so bruised. He was in so much pain and we couldn’t believe we were seeing him there.

Hon. Karuhanga: We were then taken to court, charged with treason and remanded for stoning the president’s convoy which we never saw/encountered while in Arua.

Hon. Karuhanga: I’ve had the worst experience of my life at Gulu Central police, we slept on the floor for 3 days and police men kept sending away people who came to visit us, they later realized we were starving and got us food.

Hon. Karuhanga: We literally started crawling into our hotel rooms, it wasn’t long until they started kicking & knocking down hotel rooms to pick us, they ferried us to Gulu Central Police and that’s when we got to know that Bobi Wine’s driver had been shot dead.

Hon. Karuhanga Gerald: On the 13th of August we were standing in front of our Hotel and we then see police trucks with police men and men who aren’t in uniform driving at a very high speed, they jumped off and started shooting randomly.
