President Yoweri Museveni has commended Ugandans for being ingenious and working hard.

President Museveni met a cross-section of Ugandans living in China, at the embassy’s gardens in Beijing.

The President noted: “The different speakers raised two key issues that I will discuss with President Xi Jinping. First is the matter of China heavily taxing processed goods from Uganda. Good enough, President Xi had already mentioned this in his address at FOCAC.”

He said: “There was also a request that China recognizes and certifies Ugandan teachers of English language despite not being indigenous speakers of the language. I will follow this up.”

President Museveni hailed: “I congratulate Ntumwa Birimumaso, the proprietor of Ubuntu Cafe, a company that exports Ugandan coffee to China. We shall support him to add value to his products.”

The head of state assured: “The government will also support Maria Nakaweesi, a Ugandan running a freight and logistics company in Guangzhou city. She wants a warehouse in Kampala to help reduce storage charges.”

The President stated: “I have directed the health ministry to help Wilson Sonko who exports sheer butter to China, to study his products, certify and possibly patent them so that his business is formalized.”

He went on: “The student community in China through their Chairperson Timothy Mukisa asked for help to run their activities this year. The government will give them $20,000.”

The President urged: “I have also asked the ambassador, Dr Crispus Kiyonga, to strengthen the trade officer’s desk to ensure more research is done on business opportunities for Ugandans in China.”
