Government  spokesperson , Ofwono Opondo has challenged Members of parliament to consider priorities rather than pushing their personal interests at the expense of the electorates.

While delivering a lecture on “Vision 2040: The role of the UPDF” to 132 military officers currently undergoing training at Bihanga Miltary Training School, the government Mouth piece noted that many Ugandans are not pushing others to see the opportunities they can gain from  infrastructure development, adding that most legislators go into parliament and ask for increase of salaries forgetting priorities.

It is important to note though that recently , the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, refuted media reports that Members of Parliament are seeking to increase their monthly pay from Shs11 million to Shs24 million and advised the public to ignore the reports.
“There has been no attempt to increase the salaries of Members of Parliament. That is a lie and I call on the public to ignore it,” said Kadaga.
This was after Dokolo North MP, Paul Amoru raised concern that the media reports were designed to discredit the institution of Parliament since the issue had not been discussed before the Parliamentary Budget committee.
