Former Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba has confirmed he is joining NRM.

Prof. Baryamureeba contested the 2016 Presidential elections on an independent ticket.

Appearing on NBS TV morning breeze, the former Makerere University don, told viewers he has been guided by God in his decision to join NRM.

Prof. Baryamureeba confirmed: “Since 2015, I’ve not been in any political party but I’ve finally joined NRM because God has guided me.”

He went on: “Parties accommodate everybody provided you share the same ideology. I don’t just belong, I first pray about an issue and get guidance from God. I’m joining NRM in principal.”

Prof. Baryamureeba questioned: “There’s a General feeling in the opposition that any intelligent person shouldn’t join NRM but I’m joining NRM to help them do batter.”

He asserted: “The party I’m joining is going to be in power for the next 30 years. NRM is the only party with a national character. I’m going to be there permanently and help reform it.”

The don turned politician dismissed: “People shouldn’t look at President Museveni as the NRM, it’s an institution. Now that I’m joining, I’ll start associating with them and I won’t leave.”

Prof. Baryamureeba on his objectives: “Joining NRM is a personal conviction and we should give people the benefit of doubt. I’m going to make a major contribution to the party, just wait and see.”

He added: “Anyone who joins another party is okay and is seen doing the ought thing but when you join the NRM, then that’s not okay.”
