A S.4 student in Sembabule district has drowned in a fish pond.
Peter Lukwata 18, a resident of Matete town council, who had been a student at Matete town college school in Sembabule district had just completed his O level exams.
According to Jude Kiganda, one of the proprietors of the school, after writing their exams, Lukwata and his friends decided to go to the pond to swim. He says that Lukwata was lured to enter the pond by his friends who promised to teach him to swim.
Paul Ssenkandwa the deceased’s father says that the family’s happiness was short-lived after learning about the death of his son.
Ssenkandwa has asked security authorities and local leaders to put up strong measures towards management of ponds in the district because they are turning out to be death traps in the area.
The Southern Regional Police Commander Latif Zaake says that since the pond is deep, they have requested for marine police divers from Kampala to help retrieve the body.
