The operation to retrieve bodies of people who drowned in Lake Victoria when their boat capsized six days ago has ended.

This afternoon, the wreckage of the ill-fated boat that had been retrieved from the deep waters where it was trapped was dragged to the lake shores before divers went inside the vessel to search for any dead bodies or valuable items.

Pumps were later used to empty the boat of water that had entered due to holes on its keel.

More items including beer bottles, wallets and ATM cards were recovered by divers from the scene as efforts by divers to look for any bodies still trapped under water proved futile. The number of missing persons remains at six, after their families reported missing persons.

Speaking to our reporter, AIGP Asuman Mugenyi ,Police director of operations, appealed to well-wishers to come to the help of the family of Bosco Owecho, a fisherman who died while trying to save victims on the ill-fated boat because their only bread winner died during the tragedy.
