
Police in Rukungiri District is hunting for a man for allegedly stabbing to death his 24 year old colleague after a gambling game(of cards) turned violent.
The deceased identified as Ronald Akandwanaho, a resident of Rugomera cell, Kazindiro parish in Buganagari Sub-county, together with four colleagues, are said to have been competing for money at a shop in Central Market, Kinyasano ward in Rukungiri District when he got stabbed.
A fight broke out after the suspect (name withheld) reportedly failed to pay Shs1500 as a stake for the game in which Akandwanaho emerged as a winner.
According to eyewitnesses, the scuffle ensued when Akandawanaho demanded that the suspect honours the rules of the game by paying his brother Shs1,500 , in vain.
The eyewitnesses added that the persistent demand for the said money angered the suspect who engaged Akandawanaho and his brother in a quarrel but was over-powered.
The Rukungiri District police commander Moses Nanoka, said police rushed to the scene and arrested three people including the owner of the shop .
He identified the arrested as Richard Mwesigye the owner of the shop, Ivan Ainebyoona the brother to the deceased and Asuman Mugisha, the brother to the shop owner.
“The deceased and the key suspect were released from prison barely two weeks ago. They are serial criminals. They have even started killing each other but we shall arrest the others,” he said.
Akandawanaho’s body was taken to Rwakabengo health center II mortuary for a post-mortem.
