The trial of Makerere University Researcher, Dr. Stellah Nyanzi, that was supposed to start today, over charges of Cyber Harrasment and Offensive Communication against the President and his Late Mother, has been pushed to 19th December due the abscence of the trial Magistrate and President Museveni, a principal witness.
Buganda road court Presiding Magistrate Robert Mukanza has adjourned the matter saying his Colleague Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu who is handling the case is indisposed.
Amongst Ugandans that had come to witness the court proceedings was opposition topdog, Dr Kiiza Besigye who stated that he is standing with Nyanzi because she is an inspiration to the struggle of freedom of expression and speech.
Besigye claimed that Museveni who claims to have been offended by Nyanzi’s Facebook post cannot come to court because he knows the blatant Nyanzi is innocent and very intelligent.
Prosecution alleges that Dr. Stella Nyanzi between 16th and 17th September 2018 she posted obscene messages on her face book page with an intention of disrupting the peace and privacy of President Museveni. She is alleged to have defamed his Late Mother Esteri.
Nyanzi, who had earlier declined to apply for bail, saying she wanted to teach fellow prisoners how to use face book, was thus further remanded to Luzira Prison.
