
President Museveni has hailed tycoon Charles Muhangi’s contribution to the growth of Uganda’s economy by actively participating in transport business and sports.
Muhangi, the former Africa Car Rally champion, owned Horizon Coaches, a popular bus company plying the Kabale-Masaka-Kampala route.
Speaking at Muhangi’s burial in Bumbaire sub-county, Bushenyi district on Sunday, Museveni said the country has “lost a good and courageous man who has brought change in the country” and will be “missed by all Ugandans.”
Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda represented Museveni at the burial ceremony where the president gave Shs 10m as a condolence message to the deceased’s wife Patience Muhangi to cater for burial expenses.
Museveni asked Muhangi’s wife and children to continue from where he had stopped so that the legacy and everything that Muhangi had worked for does not come to nothing.
Businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba has pledged to support the family of his deceased colleague, Charles Muhangi as well as to keep his property he has been wrangling over with tycoons in Kampala .
Basajjabalaba, who is the proprietor of Kampala International University (KIU), among other businesses, warned that all those who think they will retain Muhangi’s contested property should forget.
“We shall give you maximum support, even from government; we shall not allow grabbing of his property. I have fought even tougher challenges, whoever thinks that Muhangi has died they will take his property should forget,” he said.
The mother of the deceased, Angella Rwankore Komuzire, described her son as a “hardworking” and “god-fearing” man.
She said her son’s passion for driving was the “job he loved most on earth.”

MEANWHILE, Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances under which a 38 year old businessman ,identified as Godi Ainobushobozi from Buhunga sub county in Rukungiri, was on Saturday morning shot dead.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesman , says the deceased was waylaid at Kyemengo in Buhunga by three unknown thugs, one armed with a gun. Ainobushobozi was traveling from Thunderous Club in Rukungiri Town on a bodaboda.
He was killed instantly, while his fellow passenger one Sadam escaped unhurt.
The shooting according to Maate, happened at around 4am. He says police was notified and officers rushed to the scene where they recovered two mobile phones.
Maate says that the motorcycle rider one Jude Mugumya Alias Junior,aged 20, a resident of Nyamiyaga cell in Buhunga Sub County was arrested to help the Police with investigations, while the deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo health centre III for post-mortem.
