The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president ,Patrick Amuriat Oboi has come out to clear the air and defend thier decision to snub the Inter-Party Organisations for Dialogue (IPOD) summit , held yesterday at Speke Resort in Munyonyo.
Although Norbert Mao, the Democratic Party President who had announced that he won’t participate in the National Dialogue but later changed his mind advised FDC to return to the dialogue saying it is a process rather than a mere event, FDC defiantly made no show, leaving a number of seats vacant, all day.
“Some people were taking like the summit is some earthquake. The summit is taking place. When we close the summit, we shall say it took place and later we shall fix a date for another one because the summit is not an event, it is a process,” Mao said.
In their defence however, the summit which was in preparation for the National Dialogue was a mockery of democracy meant to show the world that Uganda is a democratic country, which is not the actual case on the ground.
Oboi explained on phone that the party has suffered several shocks since he took over office and is working to steer it in the right direction rather than “waste time” in boardroom meetings.
Amuriat added that FDC is reorganizing its structures before the 2021 polls, something that is much more important to him that attending dialogues which, he says lead nowhere.
“When Muntu left, you must have heard that some party members left with him. Now those members were also holding some very critical positions within the party which were filling internally before we can engage in any external processes,” POA explained.
