
Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine has been remanded to Luzira prison until the 2nd of May 2019 when his case will come up for mention.
He was arraigned before Buganda road magistrates court this afternoon.
Bobi Wine, who was arrested as he reported to CID headquarters on Monday morning and later detained at Naggalama police station in Mukono district was later driven to Buganda road court where grade one Magistrate Esther Nahirya read him charges related to disobedience of statutory duties contrary to section 116 of the Penal Code Act.
Bobi Wine was intercepted around Kalerwe outside the city, where he was being accompanied by a huge crowd heading to CID Kibuli. He was first driven to Nagalama, then returned to Kampala.
The state alleges that on July 11, 2018 Bobi Wine together with several others still at large at City Square in Kampala disobeyed section 5 and 10 of the Public Order Management Act 2013 by holding a public meeting without adhering to the required criteria.
“David Lule, Katongole Julius, Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu, Sebufu Edward, Robert Kyagulanyi and others still at large on July 11, 2018 at City Square Kampala road in Kampala District disobeyed sections 5 and 10 of the Public Order Managemnet Act 2013 by holding a public meeting without giving notice to any authorised officer, holding a public meeting a public meeting without adhering to the required criteria and refusing to coordinate and cooperate with police with police to ensure that all participants are unarmed and peaceful,” reads part of the charge sheet, a copy of which was seen by our reporter.
The charges against the legislator cum singer relate to the social media tax protest he held in the city centre last year. Bobi Wine also denied allegations of inciting violence and holding an unlawful assembly on Easter Monday in Busabala when his concert was cancelled.
Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa also informed journalists that Mityana MP Francis Zaake was arrested and is detained at Naggalama Police Station.
By the time of filing this story, the MP and his co-accused were trying to secure bail.
However, his sureties are among several people, including journalists who were blocked by security from accessing court premises.
