President Museveni has paid glowing tribute to former Prime Minister Prof Apolo Nsibambi, who succumbed to complications from cancer on Tuesday evening at the age of 78.
Speaking at his home in Bukesa, Mengo on Wednesday, president Museveni said he was proud of the service that Prof Nsibambi had rendered to the country, during his lifetime.
President Museveni, who had earlier described Nsibambi as a patriot, told mourners that there is nothing much that can be done since the former premiere’s death was God’s decision.
On his part, Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi commended Nsibambi for his dedicated service to the country before paying his condolences. Ssekandi, who lives nearby was joined by another Lubaga resident, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and several politicians who commended Nsibambi.
In the meantime, the family of the late premier has released a tentative programme for Nsibambi’s burial on Tuesday next week
Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda says government has put in place a committee headed by the ministry of public service and working together with the family, Buganda kingdom and the church to coordinate.
On Wednesday 29th May at 6pm , there will be a church service at his home in Bulange . On Friday 31st, at 10am , the body will be taken to parliament where MPs will pay tribute to the deceased.
On Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd June respectively, at 6pm, there will be a church service at home in Bulange. Monday 3rd June, at 12noon , the body will arrive at home in Bulange . Then on Tuesday 4th, at 9 am , there will be a requiem service at Namirembe cathedral before burial at 4pm in Buloba.
