Police is hunting for a boda boda rider who this morning knocked and injured a Catholic nun on her way to the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo. The incident took place at Katende in Mpigi district along Kampala-Masaka Highway.

The nun identified as Simon Peter Nakayinga from the convention of daughters of Mary, Katimba parish in Ssembabule District, is one of the more than 1500 pilgrims that started their journey from Masaka early this week, ahead of the June 3, Martyrs Day celebrations.

According to Paul Ssempungu, one of the pilgrims, the nun sustained injuries on the head, hand and the legs. Her eyes were also damaged by fragments from her eyeglasses.    He says that fellow pilgrims notified the priests at Katende who rushed the unconscious nun to Rubaga Hospital.

Joseph Tulya, the acting Katonga Region Police Spokesperson says that investigations into the matter are ongoing. He observes that after knocking the nun, the bodaboda rider swiftly drove off and disappeared in thin air.

This is not the first accident incident involving a pilgrim this year, on Sunday morning four Kenyan pilgrims died and ten others sustained injuries when they were knocked by a speeding vehicle, along the Iganga-Tororo highway.
