President Yoweri Museveni has pumped some sense into the heads of leaders, mainly the opposition, in the country, challenging them to seize every opportunity, if they are really interested in helping Ugandans develop.

Speaking at the  State of the Nation 2019 address at Serena Hotel on Thursday, President Museveni assured leaders that they don’t need to be in government to be useful to their society.

“Don’t tell me that because you are not NRM, you can’t help your people. Rubbish. You are useless,” Museveni said.

Museveni saaid he has spent more time in the opposition than he has been in government but his area people of Kiruhura know his worth.

“In 1966, when I was 21 and in DP, that’s when I launched efforts in my area, Kiruhura. You now find that people there are not living in grass-thatched houses. I was able to do that when I was in opposition,” Museveni has said.

“If you claim you’re this and that but you have done nothing to improve the income of your people then you’re nothing,” he added.

He claims that leaders have to be on the grassroots advising the people on how they can utilize the available resources to uplift themselves.
