A section of members of parliament have been put on the spot light for sexually harassing their female Personal Assistants.
The matter came to the limelight yesterday when over 150 members of the Uganda Parliamentarians Personal and Research Assistants Association presented a petition to the speaker of Parliament over poor working conditions and payment by the legislators.
Diana Bakaire, a member of the association, pleaded for the speaker’s intervention, explaining that some ladies, especially university and secondary school girls cannot speak out, but are finding it hard to keep their jobs.
Ann Adeke Ebaju, the National Youth MP decried the evil deeds of the Mps, strongly advising the girls to speak out openly because the legislators are not above the law.
Benard Atiku, Ayivu county MP says that the female personal assistants could be facing the problem since they are contracted on individual basis. He advised those making the accusations to table evidence to avoid appearing like they are blackmailing the MPs.
This comes as Kadaga recently urged women sexually harassed at work places to report to her. This, as Samantha Mwesigye, a senior State Attorney accused her superior Christopher Gashirabake of sexual harassment.
