Police in Kampala is interrogating two men suspected to have stolen more than 40 motorcycles in various parts of the country.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango has identified the duo as; Kenneth Bogere and Gideon Matovu, who are suspected of stealing motorcycles after sedating and sometimes killing the owners.
According to Onyango, their arrest follows a tip-off from a security informer who sighted Bogere on a motorcycle registration number UEL 075Z that had been reported stolen from Ibanda District. He later implicated Matovu as one of his accomplices.
A subsequent operation led to Matovu’s arrest from Najeera, Wakiso district, and the recovery of another motorcycle registration number UET 967-Z, 64 logbooks, 75 receipts and 12 duplicated National IDs.
Matovu later revealed that he owns 40 motorcycles, most of which were acquired dubiously.
A report released by Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga in April detailed up to 28 cases of stolen motorcycles, of which 13 riders had been killed in the process of the robbery.
