The high Court in Kampala has sent Pine Car Bond Proprietor Muhammad Sebuwufu and seven others to Luzira after convicting them of charges related to the murder of former businesswoman Donah Katushabe.
Sebuwufu alongside six others were convicted of three counts of murder, kidnap with intent to murder and aggravated robbery while one has been convicted with being an accessory after crime.
The trial judge Anglin Ssenoga convicted the group saying prosecution had proved a proper case against them placing them at the scene of crime.
In her judgment delivered this morning, she added that each of the now convicts played a role in the unlawful acts that finally led to the death of Donah Katushabe.
The others convicts are Godfrey Kayiza, Phillip Mirambe, Stephen Lwanga , Paul Tasingika, Yoweri Kitayimba, Shaban Otuddu and Damaseni Ssentongo, all employees of Pine Car Bond. Justice Ssenoga also found Ssebuwufu’s co-accused guilty of kidnap and aggravated robbery.
She however, convicted Steven Lwanga for being accessory to murder simply because prosecution failed to place him at the scene of crime. Court found him guilty of driving the vehicle where Katusabe’s body was put after being tortured to death.
Court found that the group lied to Donah when they picked her from her home in Bwebajja to the Pine Car Bond where she was supposed to negotiate payment of a loan balance of nine million shillings as part of a car purchase.
They reportedly deceived Katusabe that they wanted to settle the issue of the money she owed Sebuwufu as balance for buying a car from his bond. The judge contends that the convicts should have filed a civil suit against the deceased if they didn’t harbor any intention of killing her.
Justice Ssenoga explained that the 26 prosecution witnesses adduced over whelming evidence showing that Sebuwufu and his accomplices picked the deceased from her home in Entebbe with intentions of murdering her.
According to the judge,Katushabe was instead tortured and eventually suffered harm leading to her death.
They have been sent to Luzira until July 1 2019 when they will be sentenced.
