Cops in Kwania District are investigating hate speech directed at Reverend Venerable Julius Ceaser Nina, the Bishop Elect of West Lango Diocese.

Nina, who was elected last week by the House of Bishops sitting at Namirembe Cathedral as the Second Bishop of West Lango Diocese, is set for December 15th, 2019 at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Aduku Township in Kwania District.

However, Nina’s election seems to have rubbed some people in the diocese the wrong way. Yesterday, police recovered several placards with hate messages directed at the Bishop elect.

Some of the placards were pinned on trees while others were dropped in known public places including at St. Peters Cathedral in Aduku Township with inscriptions like; “We don’t want Bishop Elect Nina”.  “We don’t know the New Bishop Nina”. “Consecration of New Bishop Shouldn’t be done”.

In its statement, the anonymous group says Bishop Nina has never served in any part of Lango region, and they are not sure whether he will be a good shepherd.

Edith Basalirwa, the Kwania District Police Commander says that they have commenced investigations to establish those behind the placards and their motive.

Richard Ogwang Odyero, the Chairperson of the Laity West Lango Diocese, says they are also conducting internal investigation on the matter as a church.

Born on November 29th 1968 at Ayer-Tekidi Village in Kole District, Bishop Nina holds a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Uganda Christian University. He served as the Diocesan Secretary and Treasurer of Masindi-Kitara Diocese, and Education Secretary of Bunyoro-Kitara Diocese. Nina takes over from Alfred Acur, the first West Lango Diocese Bishop who has clocked retirement age.
