Neymar’s lawyers may have found a way to get the world’s most expensive player out of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian superstar has been desperate to return to the Nou Camp having completed a world-record £200million move to Paris from Barcelona in 2017.
The 27-year-old did not get his wish this summer with his former club and Real Madrid circling.
Now according to Mundo Deportivo, Neymar could benefit from Article 17 of the FIFA regulations on the Statute and Transfer of Players.
Since 2001, this clause allows a player to terminate his contract with a club unilaterally without just cause after three years if they are under 28 years old.
An example of this is the Andy Webster case in 2008 in which he quit Hearts for Wigan after invoking Article 17.
In Neymar’s case, Brazilian lawyers have come to the conclusion that the PSG forward would owe his club £154m in compensation were he to quit in 2020.
The Catalan giants’ last offer to be rejected was worth £136m plus Ivan Rakitic and Ousmane Dembele on loan.
