A-One and half-year-old boy in Gulu district has died after a15feet pit latrine he was using collapsed on Wednesday.
The incident happened at about 6 PM while Pius Odokonyero was defecating at his home in Pabit Village in Oding Parish in Unyama Sub County.
Richard Okello Lawang, the area LC 1 chairperson, described the pit latrine as muddy space with no roof and numerous cracks owing to the heavy rains pounding the area.
The family members had searched for the boy around the village but in vain, this prompted a search at thePit latrine.
He says the family members were shocked to hear their one-year-old baby crying helplessly in the 15 feet pit latrine.
Okello says residents tried to retrieve the body for over four hours up to 10:00pm when police were called.
He, however, says the child had died by the time police retrieved the body on Wednesday night.
