Last week, KCCA Fc manager Mike Mutebi said that failure by his side to qualify from either the CAF Confederations Cup or CAF Champions League stages would have guaranteed them as ‘failures to achieve one of their prime objectives set at the start of the season’.

KCCA and Mike Mutebi had hoped that they would sail into the 2019/2020 Confederations Cup group stages though it failed.

For the second year running, KCCA bowed out of the Confederations Cup at the group stage play-off qualifying round.

The Uganda Premier League champions fell to Algerian side Paradou 4-1 at the Stade 5 Juillet in Algeria.

The game was played in high moods in the opening 20 minutes, but the hosts looked the more dangerous side, creating chances behind the KCCA defence especially via Peter Magambo’s lane.

In the 7th minute, Paradou’s early dominance paid dividends when Salaheddine Harrari tapped home from close range after Abdelkader Ghorab’s knock down.

Paradou kept up the pressure, but the Kasasiro boys did draw level against the run of play in the 23rd minute, Allan Okello drilling in a low shot from the right, following a quick counter attack.

The hosts nearly regained their lead three minutes later, defender Samuel Kato was caught in possession by Ghiles Guenaoui, but the forward placed his effort wide of the target, with only the goalkeeper Charles Lukwago to beat.

In the 37th minute, the Algerians restored their lead through Yousri Bouzok who converted from the spot, following Mustafa Kizza’s foul inside the area.

KCCA could have found the leveler, but striker Sadat Anaku failed to connect well with Kizza’s deep free-kick, Paradou headed into the half time break in the lead.

KCCA Fc returned a better side after the break, commiting more men forward, but like in the first leg, they had limited shots from range as Paradou changed tactics to playing counter attacking football.

Anaku almost restored parity for KCCA in the 61st minute, but he glanced his effort wide of the target with only the keeper to beat.

Paradou extended their lead in the 65th minute, a seemingly offside Abdelkahar Kadri pounced on a loose ball to nod home his team’s third.

Aimen Bouguerra’s virtually sealed qualification for Paradou, as his free kick from almost 35 yards out-beat Lukwago.

It could have gotten worse for KCCA, but defender Peter Magambo twice cleared the ball off the line. KCCA again survived conceding a fifth as Paradou we’re denied by the woodwork of KCCA defenders.
