A Primary School teacher in Atanga Sub County, Pader District narrowly escaped a serious beating from fuming parents for turning up to school late and too drunk.
Michael Komakech, a Primary Four Social Studies teacher at Lacor Primary School showed up at school reeking of alcohol and unable to even walk steadily.
The perpetual drunkard was saved from the angry mob by the local security committee who whisked him to Atanga Police Post.
The parents allegedly accused Komakech of faulting and failing to teach their children because he is always drunk.
Charles Otim, the Lacor Primary School Headteacher says Komakech started drinking on Monday but failed to report to class.
Otim says Komakech was earlier cautioned by his predecessor over his habitual and reckless conduct of drunkenness but has never reformed.
Otim says Komakech has instead maintained his stubbornness of persistently reporting to school while drunk.
“We saved Komakech from being beaten by angry parents of pupils who were already tired of his behavior. They had wanted to beat him and forcefully evict him from the teacher’s quarters but I stopped them because he has children,” says Otim.
According to Otim, the former school Headteacher had earlier written to the district Education Department to consider scrapping off Komakech from the payroll since he wasn’t productive in the teaching profession.
Dickson Ojok, the Pader District Education and Health Secretary says that they don’t condone such acts and have called for tough action against Komakech’s unprofessional behaviors.
He is currently being detained at Atanga Police Post charged with negligence of duty.
