Ugandan athlete Joshua Cheptegei has set a new  road world record after posting 26:38 at the Valencia Marathon.

Kenya’s Leonard Komon had set the previous record in 2010 but the EastAfrican compatriots slashed it by six seconds this time round.

Cheotegei also holds the 15km road world record set last year in Netherlands.

He is also the 2019 world cross country and 10km world champion.

The Ugandan execelled at the IAAF world championship in Doha Qatar when he beat 18 another men to the men’s 10,000m accolade within 26:48:36.

He also previously won the world cross country title in Aarhus and claimed diamond league 500m title.

Cheptegei also broke the 15km road world record last year in Nijmegen-Netherlands when he set a new 41:5 record.

This year alone, the pacy runner has won four international medals for Uganda.
