Hosts Uganda will take on rivals Tanzania in the semifinals of the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup today(Tuesday) evening while defending champions Kenya will take on organized Eritrea side in the second semi-final game of the day at Startimes stadium, Lugogo.

Uganda Cranes finished as group A leaders, collecting maximum points in all their four games while the Taifa Stars finished second in group B after a goalless draw against Sudan on Sunday.

Uganda is the highest-scoring team in this year’s CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, having found the net on 10 occasions while Tanzania has only a single goal to their name.

Speaking ahead of the game, Cranes coach Jonathan McKinstry acknowledged the importance of the match and urgued his players to be at their best in order to eliminate the EastAfrican neighbors.

“Tanzania is a big footballimg nation and we know that we have to be at our best if we are to be successful, if we are below our best, then Tanzania has more than enough quality in their squad to punish us” Mckinstry said ahead of the game.

The two sides have met on 21 different CECAFA occasions with the Uganda Cranes winning 13 games as compared to only three losses to the Taifa stars and five draws.

In the other semi-final, defending champions Kenya will battle out with Eritrea for a place in this year’s finals in the early kick-off at Startimes stadium, Lugogo.

The Harambe stars finished top of group B while Eritrea finished second in group A behind Uganda.

Kenya is seven-time champions while Eritrea’s best-ever performance in CECAFA came in 1994 when they finished in the fourth position.
