Uganda has turned over seven Rwandan nationals who were on Tuesday freed by the General Court Martial back to Rwanda.
Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa handed over the group to the Rwanda High Commissioner Frank Mugambage while officiating at Kampala Serena Hotel on Wednesday.
They include Rene Rutagungira, Bahati Mugenga, Emmanuel Rwamuco, Augustine Rutisiri, Etienne Nsanzabahizi, Charles Byaruhanga and Claude Iyakaleme.
Kutesa said Uganda dropped charges as a gesture of goodwill, to ease tensions between the two countries.
Ambassador Mugambage urged Uganda to release all Rwandan nationals arrested in Uganda. He noted that the majority are still in custody on concocted charges.
The Army prosecution led by Lt Col Raphael Mugisha on Tuesday tendered before the court a document indicating that they had withdrawn charges against them of being found in possession of military firearms without a valid firearm certificate.
The court presided over by Lt General Andrew Gutti later endorsed the withdrawal of the charges and set the suspects free.
Tensions between Uganda and Rwanda started in 2019 when Rwanda closed its Gatuna and Chanika borders and issued a Travel Advisory in which it warned its citizens against traveling to Uganda.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame has also accused Uganda of harboring rebels who want to destabilize the Kigali Government.
