Uganda National Examinations Board-UNEB decision to release this year’s Primary Leaving Examination-PLE results at Kampala Parents School has raised mixed reactions.

On Friday 17th January 2020 at 11 am, the Education and Sports minister Janet Museveni will announce the PLE results at the privately-owned Kampala Parents School.

This is the first time UNEB will be releasing results outside a designated government facility.

Professor Bbosa Lutalo, the former UNEB board Chairperson is one of those up in arm against the development.

“Normally results are released in a neutral environment. Kampala Parents in this instance is not a neutral place. It has a primary class. It is going to be one of the recipients of the results. This makes one wonder whether the government has vested interests in the school,” Prof Lutalo said.

”During my time as UNEB chairman, we always chose a government institute. This has never been done. It’s unheard of in our history, “Prof Lutalo said.

Parents and other education stakeholders are also wondering the same thing with debates ongoing on social media.

Jennifer Katumba, the UNEB Spokesperson, says they wrote to the Ministry to inform them and they chose the venue.

However, the Education and Sports minister Janet Museveni has justified the move to release the 2019 Primary Leaving Examinations results from Kampala Parents School.

While appearing before a parliamentary committee on Education, Janet said the venue was offered to them free of charge.

Museveni said the Conference Hall at the Office of the President where they have traditionally released exams has a faulty air condition system which could make people uncomfortable.

“Kampala Parents is a primary school. We are not paying anything to release results there. We normally use the president’s office hall…but it has problems with its air conditioning. It has not been working. So we were looking for other places where we could go and not pay.  We settled on Kampala Parents. So, I don’t know what the difference is because we are not paying.”
