Two security guards who gunned down a mentally derailed LC1 chairperson in Latanya Sub County in Pader district have been locked up on the murder charge.

It is alleged that Lawrence Elaso and Fred Hasahya, both attached to Centurian Security Ltd on January 9th, 2020 recklessly shot dead Quinto Opira, 53 who was admitted at St Joseph`s Hospital in Kitgum district with a mental disorder.

William Komakech, the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner (RDC), says Opira was admitted at the hospital with mental disorder resulting from severe malaria when he went out of control and started screaming his loudest while running hysterically towards the hospital staff quarters.

“The deceased reportedly started running around the hospital premises and heading towards the staffs’ quarter this evening while shouting Jesus, the devil is greater than you. The two guards on duty however responded by firing at Opira killing him instantly” Komakech said.

Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, says the two criminals were slapped with the murder charge and their files have been authorized by the Resident State Attorney. They are to be arraigned in court.
