A man arrested for breaking his colleague’s legs in a brewing scuffle has hanged himself under unclear circumstances at a local police post in Kitgum district.

The suspect identified as Richard Odong, a resident of Mulago B Village in Paibony parish in Matidi Sub County had been detained on Monday night at Matidi Police Post when he reportedly committed suicide.

In December 2019, the deceased reportedly fought with a colleague and broke one of his legs but was only arrested on Monday afternoon.

According to police reports, the deceased was taken into custody on charges of causing grievous harm awaiting his transfer to Kitgum central police station.

However, an anonymous source at the police station t says the now-deceased suspect who arrested while drunk was taken to the police cells alone to recuperate before his statement could be extracted but he was found dead on Tuesday morning.

Reports from police indicate the deceased used his sweater to hang himself but the Kitgum Matidi LCIII Chairperson Kenneth Oketayot Aro says that the deceased was found with a rope on his neck which they suspect he used to hang himself.

The body was rushed to Kitgum general hospital morgue for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.
