A total of six people including two children have died and many have been injured on Thursday morning after a taxi destined for Arua overturned several times.

The overloaded taxi registration number UBG 283L was carrying 19 people together with food items including among others millet, groundnuts, and maize from Bweyale town in Kiryandongo district when it overturned about eight kilometers from Pakwach bridge in Nwoya district.

Swaib Toko, the Pakwach Resident District Commissioner, says five people died on the spot while one died on arrival at Angal hospital where he had been referred to from Pakwach health center four.

He says the deceased whose identities are still sketchy includes three women, two children, and one man.

Toko says the road was smooth with no potholes or hurdles but eyewitnesses he spoke to claim the taxi overturned following a tyre bust due to overspeeding.

He further says when he visited the accident scene he found the smooth road was a jumble of millet,g.nuts, sorghum and maize grains scattered all over including the blood of some victims.

The bodies of the deceased are currently at Packwach health center iv mortuary.
