The Appointments Committee of Parliament has finally given a go-ahead to Kyaka South Member of Parliament Jackson Kafuuzi Karugaba to take on the position of Deputy Attorney General.

Kafuuzi was among the nine MPs appointed by President Yoweri Museveni during his latest cabinet reshuffle in December 2019.

Earlier, the appointments committee chaired by the Speaker of Parliament postponed his approval citing loopholes in his experience as an advocate of the High Court.

In his defence Kafuuzi explained that he has an experience of 13 solid years in the high court with an unfiled space and advocates certificate, presented a lacuna in his competency.

Members of the Appointments Committee say this time around, Kafuuzi provided several other documents to support his work experience and was more composed and answered questions ably.

Addressing journalists on Friday, Kafuuzi noted that the entire process went well with the committee after he presented his practicing certificates, alongside approval from the court of his practicing experience.

In the Ugandan Constitution, a person shall not be qualified to be appointed Deputy Attorney General unless he or she is qualified to practice as an advocate of the High Court and has practiced or gained the necessary experience for not less than seven years.
