Several people were on Tuesday afternoon injured in a stampede after a local factory in Bweyogerere caught fire bursting into flames.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the incident occurred at 12 noon at Fanning Factory, Bweyogerere Kazinda when a power panel got a short circuit and burst into flames.
He says out of panic, a number of workers in the factory attempted to storm out of the factory, in a run for their lives and in the process got injured.
Onyango, however, says the fire was managed quickly by the presence of fire extinguishers which were used to quell the fire.
He notes that fire brigade officials also rushed to the scene in time to access the situation, the factory has temporarily been put on lockdown as investigations proceed.
Onyango has advised all factory owners to ensure they have fire extinguishers ready to handle any eventuality and those employees are coached on how to use them.
The injured were rushed to the hospital and are getting treated.
