Ugandans found driving vehicles with concealed number plates risk getting arrested and having their vehicles impounded.
This was revealed by the acting Traffic Police director, Bazil Mugisha while addressing the media on Wednesday.
Mugisha has warned that any using the road with hidden number plates for motor vehicles, including wedding convoys will be impounded.
Mugisha indicated that there is an increase in the number of vehicles with concealed number plates.
He cited wedding convoys in which number plates are covered with names of newlywed couples while some individuals have also been found covering the number-plates with names of politicians, musicians, and artists.
He said that the police have decided to first issue a stringent warning before embarking on the drive to get such vehicles off the roads. Mugisha, however, advised that messages can be placed on any other part of the vehicle but not on number plates.
Police said people should ensure their vehicles follow in the designated categories of number plates in Uganda that include ordinary ones written in black with yellow or white background, white and blue, Non-Government Organizations –NGOs, government vehicles in red color.and personalized ones.
