The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni has expressed satisfaction with the increase in numbers of students who registered and Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB).
The education minister for technical education says the candidates are increasing and moving away from the perception that technical education is for failures.
She made the remarks during the release of the November/December 2019 end of program examinations results for Uganda Community Polytechnics Certificate (UCPC) and Advanced Craft Programs by the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB).
She noted that technical education is just another arm of learning in the education and this requires more sensitization in inner communities.
The minister also said that the government continues to prioritize skills acquisition and called upon all the partners in the public sector to mentor the young graduates as they serve their apprenticeship in their industries and firms.
A total of 5,251 (991 females and 4,260 males) candidates registered for UCPC programs. Uganda Community Polytechnics Certificate-UCPC and Advanced Craft Programs- ACP, 4,102 representing 84 percent completed their studies and passed during the November/December 2019 examination cycle.
A total of 702 candidates sat for the Advanced Craft Certificate (95 females and 607 males) registered and 667 (95%) sat for the examinations from 98 centers.
According to the UBTEB, there was an improvement in the completion rate of 4% from 80% in 2011 to 84% in the year 2019 which is attributed to adequate syllabus coverage and continuous improvement in assessment mechanisms.
There’s been an increase in completion rates in the business and technical examinations according to the results released by the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB).
While releasing the results, the Executive Secretary of UBTEB, Onesmus Oyesigye attributed the increase in completion rates to the full coverage of the syllabus in different colleges around the country.
