A Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) who shot at four people instantly killing three and injuring on Monday night at Tegwana village, Vanguard parish in Pece division in Gulu Municipality has finally been captured.
The suspect, Corporal Geoffrey Okello was picked up in the wee hours of Tuesday and is now detained at the 4th division barracks in Gulu.
Okello is accused of shooting dead 52-year-old Beatrice Ajok, and her two sons Dan Joakim Binyang aged 18, and Owen Norman, 20 at around 8:30 pm at Vanguard sub ward, Pece Division in Gulu Municipality.
An 8-year-old child was also injured in the incident. It’s alleged that the suspect was fighting with the deceased overgrazing her goats on his land.
Maj. Caesar Olweny, the UPDF 4th Division Spokesperson says that Corporal Okello was arrested from Central Guard at the barracks where he had been deployed.
Major Olweny said Investigation is ongoing to establish the motive of the shooting.
The bodies of the three victims have since been taken to Gulu Referral Hospital for post mortem.
Olweny said that experts were yet to examine the gun that was used by the suspect because the soldier’s ammunition was found intact.
